The Redmaids’ High Junior School is a light and spacious campus for girls from Years 3 to 6. Attractive classrooms are supported by communal spaces, plus an art room, music room, a library, and a performing arts hall. From Easter 2017, there will be a completely new outdoor play space to challenge, enthuse and develop creativity during playtimes. A series of dens, monkey bars and a stage promise lots of fun. There is also a climbing frame, playhouse and castle and the addition of an artificial grass area will provide more all-year-round play space for football, handstands or chase
The Junior School is linked by a gate to the Senior School and uses many of its superb facilities including a large sports hall, games pitches, dining facilities, science laboratories, food technology rooms and additional performance spaces.
The girls enjoy an exceptionally rich curriculum within a caring and aspirational environment. They also engage enthusiastically in activities and achieve excellent results in national exams for music, speech and drama.
The many benefits of the merger for the Junior School include extended teaching and specialist expertise, greater opportunities for co-curricular activities, additional classes and resources, and outstanding new shared facilities at the senior school for performing arts, music, sport and science.
It has been proposed that the remaining Years 3, 4 and 5 at Redland relocate to Westbury-on-Trym for the start of the Summer Term 2017 to enable them to begin forging friendships sooner. This has been made possible by the early completion of the new classrooms being built on site there.
This means they will join their Year 6 peers who moved to Westbury at the start of the 2016/17 academic year.
During the ‘transition year’ numerous events have been taking place so that pupils, parents and staff can get to know each other. For pupils this includes joint educational trips, music and drama productions, sports events and socials. Staff are benefitting from teacher exchanges, educational workshops and joint training initiatives.
Furthermore, in a proposal announced in November 2016, Redmaids’ High Infants will move from Redland to the Westbury site from September 2017, offering a provision for girls only in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. No more boys will join us, but those already within the Redmaids’ High family are welcome to remain with us on their journey until they transfer to KS2/Junior School.
This is an exciting opportunity to join together as one community to provide all pupils with the best education and pastoral care, creating a strong foundation for their future at Redmaids’ High School.
